Welcome to the 2nd Edition of the Tour of the Potteries cycle sportive

Start/Finish: Hanley, Stoke on Trent
The Tour of the Potteries sportive sponsored by international automotive and bicycle lubrication manufacturer FUCHS Silkolene, is a multi distance event taking in the best of the Peak District from Stoke on Trent in aid of the local charity the Donna Louise Trust.
Based at the company’s headquarters in Hanley, there will be two routes of varying distances; 104kms & 44kms out towards and into the Peak District taking in lots of famous landmarks and climbs to cater for all abilities of cyclist from elite to new sportive riders wanting a challenge.
The long route heads out towards Leek and up through Thorncliffe and towards Flash where the feed will enable everyone to top up their energy levels.
The route then goes over the Roches and onto Gun hill before turning south and meeting up with the short ride back to Fuchs HQ at Hanley
The short ride turns at Cheddleton and returns via Longsdon and re-joins the long route at Lask Edge
Long route – 104km (64 miles)
Short route – 44km (27 miles)
There will also be a free family ride on a virtually traffic free route close to the town named the Knotty after the old railway system of the Potteries, with 2 routes to help novices
All routes offer something for all abilities and a challenge to raise money for the charity.
Join some of the UK’s top motorsport stars riding the event as well as their back up teams who will be bringing their race vehicles and support trucks to show to the public at the Hanley Factory.

TOUR OF THE POTTERIES
SUNDAY JUNE 25TH
EVENT HQ FUCHS HO. NEW CENTURY STREET, HANLEY, STOKE ON TRENT, ST1 5HT.
PARKING There is free parking on site for 80 cars and an overspill at the Go Outdoors carpark at £2.50 per day, 100m from the start.
REGISTRATION Will be adjacent to the offices and opens at 07.30am close at 09.30am.
LONG ROUTE 08.30am to 09.00am.
SHORT ROUTE 09.00AM to 09.30am.
LONG ROUTE will have 1 main feed stop at FLASH VILLAGE HALL at 33.5miles and TOP UP FEED at HORTON VILLAGE HALL at 51.6miles (this is the same feed as the short route).
SHORT ROUTE will have a feed stop at HORTON VILLAGE HALL at 13miles.
PLEASE NOTE HORTON VILLAGE HALL IS 200M OFF THE ROUTE ON THE RIGHT HANDSIDE.
TIMING and HEALTH and SAFETY.
The event will be timed using our punch card system, so please ensure you hand in your cards at the start to enable your time to be recorded and you’re safely checked back after the ride.
PLEASE can all riders if they abandon, change routes, or just go home early inform our HQ mobile number so we know of your whereabouts and you are safe.
All times will be published on Tuesday 27th June on line, after midday.
The ride emergency number is displayed on your ride number.
Will be displayed on the boards at registration, please take a note of all 3 different networks as mobile phone communications are poor in many parts of the route and surrounding area. If you can’t get a signal try texting or ask a fellow rider to call in for you when a signal is available giving your location and ride number. If in an accident please use the emergency services (999) if you feel it is deemed necessary as due to the length of the route we cannot all ways respond as quickly.
We will have vehicles including a medic bike patrolling the route along with service vehicles for assistance as well.
The route is fully arrowed and signed with rider and traffic warning signs, please adhere to these as they are there for your safety.
ROUTES SPLIT LONG and SHORT rides
After 8miles the routes split at Cheddleton the SHORT route turning LEFT onto Park Lane and the LONG route going straight on.
There will be ROUTES SPLIT SIGNS and SHORT and LONG signs with confirmations.
There are signs when the ROUTES MERGE again so be aware of other riders.
PLEASE note it is a Sunday and if the weather is good we will have extra traffic on the routes with increased vehicle traffic.
We will have mechanical assistance at the start and where possible around the route, but ensure you have spare tubes and we recommend 25c width tyres as a minimum for this event.
Finally, please remember this is a non-competitive event so please ride to the Highway Code always and please be courteous to fellow road users at all times.
